Prevention, Recognition, and Management of Postpartum Hemorrhage

This curriculum is intended to train physicians, nurses, midwives, and community-based health care providers (including community health workers and skilled birth attendants) in the skills and techniques necessary to implement a comprehensive continuum of care approach to preventing and managing postpartum hemorrhage (PPH). It is designed to actively involve the participants in the learning process. Sessions include simulation skills practice, discussions, case studies, role plays and clinical practice, using objective knowledge, attitude, and skills checklists. It includes both a trainer’s guide and participant’s guide.

Clinical and Community Action to Address Postpartum Hemorrhage

This toolkit includes materials designed to aid in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of postpartum hemorrhage in a clinical setting, including a birth planning card, competency-based checklists, health facility assessment tools, community survey tools, data collection tools, and a number of wall charts intended for display. These tools can be used to support the activities outlined in the “Prevention, Recognition, and Management of Postpartum Hemorrhage” curriculum.

Clinical and Community Action to Address Postpartum Hemorrhage: The Pathfinder International Model, May 2010

This paper provides an overview of the Pathfinder model that incorporates community and advocacy interventions with clinical prevention and management to address postpartum hemorrhage. The article includes a brief description of the application and use of the non-pneumatic anti-shock garment that can stabilize a woman until she receives emergency obstetric care.
