Climb for Pathfinder—Staff and Friends to Summit Mt. Elbrus, Raise Funds for Pathfinder
WATERTOWN, MA, July 28, 2010
Pathfinder is fortunate to have a range of dedicated staff around the world who often go above and beyond. This week one staff member will truly go up, up, and beyond. Ernest Ostro, Pathfinder’s Director of Information Systems, is currently climbing Mt. Elbrus, one of the famous seven peaks, with two friends and is using the climb to raise awareness about and money for Pathfinder’s work.
“I’ve been dedicated to grassroots efforts as long as I can remember…so much so that sometimes I’ve despaired at how often the same problems happen over and over,” Ernest said. “But since I joined Pathfinder last fall, I’ve seen how we make a difference. That’s why I feel so strongly about our work and am so happy to climb Mt. Elbrus to further what we do.”
Ernest and his friends are hoping to raise $1 for every foot of Mt. Elbrus or $18,510. Ernest said, “The best biology teacher I ever had once told me: ‘if you want to save the world, go educate women, and teach them how to safely have children.’ Pathfinder is special because our work to improve people’s sexual and reproductive lives removes roadblocks to improving the standards of education worldwide, especially among women. We’re reaching some of the most underserved people, in some of the world’s hardest places.”
The climbing team has started a Facebook page dedicated to this effort and are posting updates from their various climbing camps along the way. You can follow them at www.facebook.com/ClimbforPathfinder or on Pathfinder’s page www.facebook.com/PathfinderInternational. Donations can me made here: www.pathfind.org/ClimbforPathfinder. Cheer them on, wish them well, and share with friends!
