MAJOR PROJECTS
Focus on Young Adults
 Focus on Young Adults was a six-year program led by Pathfinder International in partnership with the Futures Group International and Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. Funded by the US Agency for International Development, it was the first USAID-funded program to focus on the reproductive health concerns of adolescents and young adults.
From 1995 until the end of the project in 2001, FOCUS collaborated with numerous organizations and institutions to achieve the following program results:
- Increased awareness about both the reproductive health needs of young adults and successful initiatives to serve them.
- Improved capability of organizations to design and carry out youth initiatives through training, suggesting effective methods of program design, policy analysis, and service delivery.
- Identification of what works by collaborating with organizations to document past experiences as well as to evaluate and undertake practical research on promising programs and policies.
In addition to working with colleague organizations and USAID itself, FOCUS carried out work in 28 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, Africa and the Asia/Near East regions. Major activities included technical expert group exchanges, conferences and workshops, consultations and strategic planning with AID missions and others in developing countries; State-of-the-Art (SOTA) and Training-of-Trainers (TOT) workshops; policy analysis and development of NewGen, a computer simulation model that assists in YARH policy and planning; evaluation and research studies; and publication and dissemination of a wide range of studies, reports and program tools.
These publications uniquely address key aspects of young adult reproductive health and/or provide methods and recommendations for implementing and evaluating programs. FOCUS' End of Program Report, "Advancing Young Adult Reproductive Health: Actions for the Next Decade," presents insights and lessons learned as well as an assessment of program approaches and recommendations. This publication and most others are available online, but we no longer have hard copies available for distribution.
