ADVOCACY: Overview
In developing countries, women risk death and disability each time they become pregnant. In fact, every minute of every day at least one woman in the developing world dies from pregnancy-related causes. Yet millions of women, men and youth in the developing world lack access to the contraceptives and basic health care services that can save lives.
As a US-based organization with field operations overseas, Pathfinder works to ensure that Americans understand the real impact of family planning on the lives of men, women, and their families in the developing world. Through communication, education, collaboration, and advocacy, Pathfinder seeks to increase US support for international family planning programs.
Pathfinder’s Advocacy Program provides credible, firsthand accounts to US policy-makers of the tremendous impact of family planning and reproductive health programs overseas and of the repercussions of US foreign policies on these programs. Internationally, Pathfinder supports the efforts of host-country governments, legislatures, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), in creating family planning and reproductive health policies.
We at Pathfinder believe that access to accurate and comprehensive family planning information and services is a basic human right that should be offered in a neutral and non-judgmental manner.
